Listen at the Library, the collaboration between the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Stark County District Library is returning to in-person story times this March. The program pairs music with children’s literature and teaches students about instruments of the orchestra.
A trio of musicians will travel to each of the 10 Stark County library branches where they will team up with a librarian to present a musical story time program. “This program is such a wonderful collaboration,” states Rachel Hagemeier, Manager of Education and Community Engagement for the orchestra. “We are overjoyed that we finally able to present this program in person after two years of virtual offerings. This fun and educational story time will be a wonderful return to in person family performances.”
Julia Shaheen, Literacy Manager for the Stark County District Library has collaborated with Hagemeier in the development of this year’s programs which includes selecting the books to be read, working with librarians at each location and rehearsing with the musicians.
