News Release: MassMu’s May “Do the Mu!”—Abstract Painting Using Recycled Stamp Art

Participants will enjoy a free, family-friendly activity during the next in-person Do the Mu on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Anyone is welcome to join the workshop at the Museum between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. to make abstract art acrylic paintings using found objects. All supplies will be provided. Pre-made stamps created by artist Erika Reynolds will be available for guests to try, and attendees will receive a worksheet listing objects they can find at home to make their own unique stamps following this workshop.

Reynolds is a multi-media visual artist with a studio at The Hub Art Factory in Canton. Inspired by her love for fantasy, dark art, and surrealism, she has created a whimsical aesthetic in her work—featuring the cute, the creepy, and the strange. She creates character sculptures and surreal worlds from polymer/paper clays, epoxy resin, and found objects that were once considered trash. She has also worked with acrylic paints, watercolor, colored pencils, and body and face paint. She has created mural art, digital designs, photography, interior designs, and set designs.

Do the Mu is a monthly drop-in, hands-on intergenerational outlet for creativity. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark. This project is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
While at the Museum on May 7, visitors will be able to see Un-settling: A Story of Land Removal and Resistance; Threads Moving Backward and Forward: Contemporary Textile Artworks from Ohio; Tiger Legacy: The Story Continues; the Paul Brown/Massillon Tiger Football History Timeline; Michael Gill: The Grownups Keep Talking/Nobody Knows Why; Clicking for a Cause; Collection Snapshot: Faces of Massillon Business; the Immel Circus; and exhibitions in the Local History and Albert E. Hise Fine and Decorative Arts Gallery.

The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon.  Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A visit is always free.
