News Release: Art Educator of the Year Finalists Exhibition
 
 
The Massillon Museum co-sponsored—with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Canton Museum of Art—the 2023 Art Educator of the Year award. The winner, announced on Sunday, March 5, during the Canton Symphony Orchestra concert, is Tam Grandjean, art teacher at Hoover High School in North Canton City Schools.
 
Artwork by the five finalists will be exhibited in the Massillon Museum’s Lower Level Lobby and in a complementary exhibition at the Canton Museum of Art from March 21 through April 8, 2023. The finalists for the 2023 Art Educator of the Year Award are:
  • Matthew J. Ferrell, Massillon Washington High School, Massillon City Schools
  • Tam Grandjean, Hoover High School, North Canton City Schools
  • Rayvin Lindsey, Crenshaw Middle School, Canton City Schools
  • Renee Marinchek, Alliance Intermediate School, Alliance City Schools
  • Rita Walbeck, Glenwood Intermediate School, Plain Local Schools
The Massillon Museum exhibit can be seen during regular Museum hours, Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
 
The Music Educator of the Year was also announced on March 5. The award was presented to Melanie Mesmer, music teacher at Northwood Elementary in North Canton City Schools. Both awards recognize public, private, and parochial art and music educators in the region served by the Stark County Educational Service Center who have positively impacted their students and communities, and who have shown great dedication to the field of art and music education. MassMu presents the awards in partnership with the Canton Museum of Art and Canton Symphony Orchestra. The winner of each award received a $500 check.
 
The Massillon Museum is grateful for operating support from the Ohio Arts Council, ArtsinStark, and the citizens of Massillon, as well as marketing support from Visit Canton.  This exhibition is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
