NEA Big Read Keynote: Author Charles Yu
 
 
On Thursday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m., the highlight of the Massillon Museum’s 2023 NEA Big Read will be a live online keynote by author Charles Yu, whose book, Interior Chinatown, has been this year’s book selection. The presentation—via Massillon Museum Facebook Live—will be free and open to everyone with no registration or Facebook account required. The audience will be encouraged to submit questions during the program.
 
MCTV will air a recording of the program on Sunday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m. on channel 621.
 
MassMu and its NEA Big Read partners have distributed 1,300 free copies of Interior Chinatown. During its 16 years of receiving a grant to participate in this prestigious national initiative, the Museum has provided 31,700 complimentary books to the community.
 
CHARLES YU, the author of four books, including his latest, Interior Chinatown, which won the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction, was shortlisted for the Le Prix Médicis étranger, and longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. He received the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 Award, was nominated for two Writers Guild of America awards for his work on the HBO series Westworld, and has written for shows on FX, AMC, Facebook Watch, and Adult Swim. His fiction and non-fiction have appeared in The New YorkerThe New York Times MagazineThe AtlanticWiredTime, and Ploughshares.
 
The NEA Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in partnership with Arts Midwest designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.  
 
The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark.  The Massillon Public Library has, for 16 years, been MassMu’s lead NEA Big Read partner.  Rotary Club of Massillon and One Tiger are significant funders.
