The Department of Theatre at The University of Mount Union will feature Christopher Durang’s “Miss Witherspoon” October 3-October 6.
“Miss Witherspoon”, written by Durang, was one of three finalists for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
In the play, Veronica finds the world a frightening place. Skylab, an American space station that came crashing down to earth haunts and enrages her. So, she has committed suicide and is now in what she expected to be heaven, but is instead in something called the Bardo. The forces there keep trying to make her reincarnate. A lovely Buddhist spirit guide named Maryamma is intent on getting Veronica back to earth so she can learn the lessons her soul is supposed to learn. Several times in the play Veronica is forced to return to earth, but each time she keeps finding her way back to the Bardo.
Members of the cast include; Naimah Coleman ‘21, Kayla Cordle ‘22, Cassie Mead ‘20, Robbie Rush ‘22 and Olivia Wolfram ‘22. The stage manager is Britt Kolek ‘21 and assistant stage managers are Kylie Dean ‘23 and Brandon Dowdrick ‘23.
All performances will be held in the Giese Performing Arts Center in the Gallaher Black Box Theatre. Performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee will begin at 2 p.m.
