MassMu’s June Rhythms Concert Features Three Bands

MassMu’s June Rhythms Concert Features Three Bands

The Massillon Museum’s Rhythms Concert Series will continue on Thursday, June 15, with two bands from Akron’s fabled early punk scene—the Bizarros and The HiFis. They will be joined on stage by singer-songwriter Anya Van Rose and her trio.

An Akron-based punk rock/new age band formed in 1976, Bizarros musicians include Nick Nicholis, Don Parkins, Jerry Parkins, and Martyn Flunoy.

Chuck Keith, Rich Roberts, Tren Houseman, Harvey Gold, and Denny Coyle comprise The HiFis, also part of Akron’s early 1980s punk rock scene.

Sweet in her vocals and grounded by dark guitar-driven grit, Anya Van Rose, accompanied onstage by Austin Wolfe, Austin Popovich and Devin Johnson, has her first full length album, Lucky Stars, coming out in July.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and galleries will remain open until the concert starts at 7:00 p.m. in Gessner Hall. A cash bar will be available. Tickets ($12 each or $10 for members) can be purchased at MassMu.org/Tickets, in person, or by phone at 330.833.4061. Membership will be verified at the door; memberships can be purchased at any time.
