MassMu Window Decorating Contest | Massillon Museum

MassMu Window Decorating Contest

The Massillon Museum is now accepting entries for a juried window decorating contest. The contest is open to students in grades six through twelve in all Massillon area public, private, parochial, and homeschool settings. Students can enter individually or as a team (three students maximum per team). Twelve designs will be selected based on originality, composition, and closeness to theme.

Designs will be due to the Massillon Museum by Sunday, October 9, at 5:00 p.m, and must be mailed, emailed, or delivered in person during hours of operation. Emailed entries can be sent to: ancoon@massillonmuseum.org with the subject line “Window Contest.” The Museum will provide paints and brushes. Students will be notified if their designs are selected by October 21.

Students will select one of three thematic areas when creating their design: positive affirmations (these selections will be painted on windows near Greatness Cafe), winter season, or holiday. Students can choose from two window sizes: 40” x 66” or 32.25” x 56.25”.

Students can work together as a team or as individuals. If part of a team, students may not submit a separate, individual drawing. Drawings must be submitted to scale in color on white paper (8-1/2” x 11”) or on the entry form furnished by the Museum.

Use of copyrighted images is not acceptable.  Student name(s), home address, phone number, school, and grade must be listed on the form for the entry to be considered. No late entries will be considered.

Forms for the MassMu Holiday Window Decorating Contest are available at MassMu Window Decorating Contest Submission Form.pdf or on the Museum’s website under Programs and Events. To request a different file type, email Accessibility@MassillonMuseum.org. Paper copies of the form are available at MassMu’s front desk.

Painting day will be Saturday, November 5, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.with a rain date of Sunday, November 6. Students will have until 3:00 p.m on Sunday, November 6, to complete their windows should they have sports or activities on Saturday. Students whose designs are selected will be asked to confirm their ability to be present on these dates.

Massillon Museum will feature some of the students’ artwork on its social media pages.

The Museum will try to pair younger children with lower windows, but parents/guardians should bring a small step stool. Parents/guardians of students with selected designs will be asked to sign a waiver on the Painting Day. A parent/guardian must be present with each student/group throughout the painting event.
