On Wednesday, August 17, the Massillon Museum will help celebrate the beginning of the 2022 Massillon Tiger football season with free orange-and-black ice cream following the Tiger Kickoff Pep Rally at Duncan Plaza. Tiger-Striped Ice Cream Night, co-hosted by the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club and the Massillon Museum, has become part of Massillon’s football tradition.
The rally and the ice cream cones are free for everyone; no reservations are required. Fans will follow the team and the band from Duncan Plaza to the Massillon Museum lawn, where members of the Massillon Museum and the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club will serve chocolate-flavored ice cream.
Dr. Charles Paquelet of the Booster Club worked with Handel’s Ice Cream prior to the 2004 football season to create an orange and black marbled treat to serve after the Downtown Massillon Association’s annual pep rally. Handel’s provides the cones for the event.
Prior to the rally, Tiger fans can attend the unveiling of an eight-foot bronze Obie statue at the corner of First Street and Lincoln Way East near the football mural. MassMu Events and Volunteer Coordinator Rose Milnes suggests having dinner in downtown to make a complete evening of the festivities.
The Massillon Museum is proud to partner with the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club to present the Paul Brown Museum within the Massillon Museum, which is open during regular Museum hours Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 and Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Like all visits to MassMu, admission to the Paul Brown Museum is free. Visitors can currently see the “Carry On”: A Century of Swing exhibition and the Paul Brown/Massillon Tiger Football History Timeline.
