Beginner students can learn “Portrait Drawing—Sight Size” at the Massillon Museum on Saturday, June 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Adults and participants 16 years of age and older are welcome. The class will be limited to six people.
Students will learn the basic traditional skills of the “sight size” technique in portraiture as performed by great artists like John Singer Sargent, Titian, Van Dyke, and Velazquez. This class, with instructor Bridget Wiese, is an introduction to a process that leads an artist through live charcoal sketch studies in which the drawing is placed next to the model and viewed as a whole from a distance. Combining art with archives, the Massillon Museum will provide historical busts as models for this course.
Supplies are included with the class fee—$25 ($20 Museum member). Massillon Museum classes are open to the public. Pre-registration is required for this class by June 3. Students may register by phone, by mail, or in person using cash (exact change), checks, or credit cards. For a detailed class schedule, call the Massillon Museum at 330-833-4061 or visit www.massillonmuseum.org.
The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city lots.
