Loren Veigel to Perform at St. Timothy’s Church
St. Timothy’s Church will host a free Advent organ recital by Loren Veigel on Wednesday, December 7, at noon. Everyone is welcome.
Loren C. Veigel served 31 years in secondary choral music education. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mount Union College and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona.
He taught at Waynedale, Jackson, and Lancaster high school, before 15 years as director of vocal music at Massillon Washington High School. His choirs compiled a record of success in adjudicated events, including more than 25 AA state superior ratings.
An interest in travel has pervaded Veigel’s career. His choirs have performed in many states, as well as Ontario and Quebec. As a director with the Ohio Honors Chorale, he conducted in many European tours, culminating in four tours by the Massillon Washington Advanced Choir. He is now the Ohio representative for Witte Travel and Tours of Grand Rapids, Michigan, allowing him to prepare many performance organizations for tours.
Veigel’s life has included church and collegiate work, serving on the staff of five churches, most notably St. Paul’s Lutheran of Massillon. He founded the Walsh University Chorale, serving there for more than five years, and seven years at the University of Akron, where he worked with vocal music student teachers and taught graduate music education.
Professional organizations have included: the American Choral Directors Association (secretary and Ohio president); Ohio Music Education Association (district president, adjudicator, site host, 2009 All-State Choir chair); and the American Guild of Organists.
St. Tim’s remaining Wednesday Advent organ recitals will feature tenor Michael Lewis on December 14 and organist Levi Muriuki on December 21. Each week there will be a worship service at 12:30 followed by light refreshments. Guests are welcome to attend.
