Jennifer Frautschi joins the CSO for Brahms

Our final MasterWorks for the season brings nationally known soloists Jennifer Frautschi to the stage with the Canton Symphony Orchestra.  This concert is on April 13, 2019, features Frautschi performing the Brahms Violin Concerto and the orchestra performing Rachmaninoff’s second symphony.  This concert has been generously sponsored by William P. Blair III, Bob & Donna Leibensperger, and Brad & Sue Goris.
The first part of the concert will be Jennifer Frautschi’s performance of Brahms’ Violin Concerto.  Brahms had a fortunate experience of a positive relationship with a violinist to help him compose this piece (and many others, in fact), so it quickly rose to popularity and to this day remains a popular concerto in the violin literature.  This concerto is full of many different personalities from the violin, sometimes soaring and romantic, other times playful and sporadic.  After intermission, the CSO takes the stage for a performance of one of the great Russian symphonies, Rachmaninoff’s second.  This is a monumental work full of tumultuous Russian romance sure to bring the audience to its feet in a fitting end to our classical season.
Two-time GRAMMY nominee and Avery Fisher career grant recipient Jennifer Frautschi has garnered worldwide acclaim as an adventurous musician with a remarkably wide-ranging repertoire. Highlights of her past season included performances with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Tucson Symphony, as well as return engagements with the Alabama, Arkansas, Belo Horizonte , Chattanooga, Phoenix, and Toledo Symphonies and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. This past summer she performed at the Ojai, La Jolla, Santa Fe, Moab, Bridgehampton, and SaltBay Music Festivals.
Born in Pasadena, California, Ms. Frautschi was a student of Robert Lipsett at the Colburn School; she also attended Harvard, NEC, and Juilliard, where she studied with Robert Mann. She performs on a 1722 Antonio Stradivarius violin known as the “ex-Cadiz,” on generous loan from a private American foundation.
Frautschi will be leading a master class free and open to the public on April 13th before the concert.  This master class will be located at the Randall Campus Center on the campus of Malone University, and will start at 10am.
