Canton Palace Theatre announces 100th Anniversary Capital Project
Transformative expansion project seeks to address current facility and accessibility challenges

Canton, Ohio, October 11, 2023. The Canton Palace Theatre, an iconic regional performance venue and a cornerstone of downtown Canton, is thrilled to announce an ambitious $16 million dollar capital project, the 100th Anniversary Project, aimed at expanding the beloved theatre and addressing current facility challenges. This project endeavors to enhance the facility’s functionality and accessibility, allowing for a greater number of patrons to experience live and movie events for generations to come. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Canton Palace Theatre maintains the architectural integrity of its historic Theatre and partners with others to present cultural, entertainment, and educational experiences for the community.

Georgia Paxos, Executive Director of the Canton Palace Theatre, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This project addresses the facility needs of our patrons and customers.  It will ensure the Canton Palace Theatre remains at the forefront of historic entertainment venues in Northeast Ohio and will expand our footprint, but also our economic impact to our community.”

Key objectives of the project include expanding the current stage to allow for larger live events, addition of a secondary lobby to allow patrons more locations for concessions and refreshments, additional premium seating closer to the stage, adding an elevator to allow for accessible seating in the balcony, additional restrooms on both floors, a permanent loading dock area for ease of show set up and additional dressing rooms for our performers.

This transformative project will profoundly influence the local community, presenting added advantages for residents. With increased accessibility and enhanced functional spaces, the theatre will host a broader spectrum of events and extend rental opportunities to other organizations. Paxos emphasized, “When completed, we are excited to continue hosting and presenting the diverse programming we are known for in an expanded facility with more amenities for our supportive community.”

In striving to ensure best practices in theater construction and expansion projects, the Canton Palace Theatre has enlisted the expertise of Stages Consulting, the world-renowned theater and acoustics design consultancy company located in Highland Park, New Jersey. Additionally, Motter & Meadows Architects are being utilized for their services as well as Fred Olivieri Construction Company for their construction management services.

As the Canton Palace Theatre embarks on this transformational expansion project, it maintains its unwavering commitment to fostering community spirit, honoring its rich history, and hosting and providing diverse cultural and artistic events for years to come.

This monumental initiative will unfold through a multi-phase fundraising and construction process. The Canton Palace Theatre encourages all those interested in the 100th Anniversary project to visit www.cantonpalace100.com for more information.
