Call for Artists: Inaugural Mural Fest to Transform Downtown Canton This Fall

ArtsinStark, the City of Canton, Downtown Canton Partnership, and Visit Canton have partnered together to introduce Mural Fest, a vibrant new event set to energize the city’s cultural landscape this fall.

This dynamic celebration of public art will feature the creation of thirteen new murals throughout the month of September, culminating in a community-wide festival on September 28, 2024.

“Mural Fest is a testament to the power of collaboration among some of our city’s esteemed institutions,” shared Todd Herberghs, Executive Director of the Downtown Canton Partnership. “Working together, Mural Fest really embodies our shared vision of making Canton a more vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich destination for all.”

Mural Fest aims to transform downtown Canton into a canvas of creativity, inviting artists from near and far to leave their mark on the city’s walls. The event seeks to highlight the power of art in public spaces, fostering a sense of community pride and enhancing the visual appeal of the urban environment.

“We are excited to launch Mural Fest as a new tradition in Canton,” said Maureen Ater, President and CEO of ArtsinStark. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate the arts and engage with our community in a meaningful way.”

City of Canton Planning Director Donn Angus added, “This event symbolizes the city’s commitment to fostering creativity, community engagement, and cultural enrichment. We look forward to seeing the incredible creativity that artists will bring to our city.”

Thirteen sites located in the Cherry/Walnut Street area of downtown Canton have been identified as canvases for the event.

The Mural Fest committee is calling for talented muralists to submit their proposals to be part of this groundbreaking event. Details regarding Submission Requirements, Goals of the Project, Artist Eligibility and Criteria are available by logging onto MuralFestCanton.com.

“Visit Canton is delighted to support Mural Fest, a dynamic new event that promises to attract visitors from across the region and establish our city as a vibrant destination for years to come,” added Visit Canton President and CEO Allyson Bussey.

The deadline for applications is July 19, 2024, at 4 p.m. EST.
