News Release:  Kelly D. Mezurek—MassMu Brown Bag Lunch Speaker
“Black Men in Blue: The Civil War, Ohioans, and the US Colored Troops”
 
Dr. Kelly D. Mezurek, a historian, author, and professor, will talk about “Black Men in Blue: the Civil War, Ohioans, and the US Colored Troops” at the Massillon Museum’s Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, February 27, beginning at 12:10 p.m. The event will conclude about 12:50 p.m. to accommodate guests on their lunch hours.
 
Dr. Mezurek, who joined the Walsh University faculty in 2000, is now a full professor, teaching upper division US history classes. A lifelong Ohio resident, Mezurek earned a bachelor of arts in history and a master of arts in public history from Baldwin Wallace College. She achieved a Ph.D. in nineteenth-century US history from Kent State University. 
 
She is the advisor for Alpha Nu Sigma, the Walsh University chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the honor society of history. Mezurek is a past executive board member of the Ohio Academy of History, was a representative on the Ohio Civil War 150 Advisory Committee, and coordinates the Walsh Constitution Day program. She was awarded the 2019 Nau Civil War Fellowship at the University of Virginia. Her book, For Their Own Cause: The 27th United States Colored Troops, was a finalist for the 2017 Ohioana Book Award for nonfiction.
 
The Brown Bag Lunch series is free and open to everyone. Guests may bring lunch or purchase sandwiches, salad, and smoothies at Greatness Cafe in the Museum lobby. MassMu provides complimentary cookies and coffee for attendees. Galleries will be open before and after the Brown Bag Lunch.
