Ballet’s Season Opener Celebrates Innovative and Diverse Choreography

Canton Ballet will present Celebrate Dance! on Friday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Canton Palace Theatre.  The beautifully restored theatre is located at 605 Market Avenue N., in Canton.  The event is sponsored by The Canton Repository.

The repertory program offers pieces hand-selected by artistic and executive director Cassandra Crowley in a program of classical and contemporary ballet and modern dance.  With a focus on innovation, Celebrate Dance! presents modern choreographers showcasing the athleticism, strength and versatility of dancers in a diverse display of dance.  There are seven works on the program.  Runtime is 1 hour and 30 minutes including intermission.

Choreographers are Canton Ballet alumnae Joy Raub and Kylie Beringer of Canton, Charles Martin of Kansas City, Sarah Emory of Atlanta, Canton Ballet choreographer in residence Angelo Lemmo and director Crowley.

Admission specially priced for Celebrate Dance! is $10 with all seats reserved.   A group rate is available for 10 or more.  Tickets may be purchased online at cantonballet.com and in person or by telephone at 330-455-7220 at the ballet office in the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Ave. N. in Canton.  Office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.   The office is closed Friday and Sunday.  Use the Cleveland Avenue entrance.

The Palace Theatre has a wheelchair seating area on the main floor.  The theatre box office opens one hour before performance times for walk-ups and will-call sales.

Canton Ballet’s performance season is funded in part by county arts council ArtsinStark; the Ohio Arts Council, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; The Canton Repository; Kenan Advantage Group; the Stark County Foundation; the Deuble Foundation; and the Canton Ballet Barre Association.
