17th Annual Women’s Film Festival Coming to the Canton Palace Theatre

LUNAFEST®: Short Films By, For, About Women®

Sponsored by: Girls on the Run East Central Ohio

Girls on the Run East Central Ohio will be hosting LUNAFEST® at the Canton Palace Theatre on June 21, at 6 p.m. The fundraising film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities.

This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, body image, relationships, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

This year the film festival added a contest for high school students to create a film about a woman who has inspired them. Holly Cooper and Morgann Schlabach residents of North Canton City and graduating seniors of Hoover High School produced “The Cindea Quotient,” a film about Mrs. Tina Cindea, a math teacher at Hoover High School. Their entry has been selected to be featured at LUNAFEST. Holly and Morgann’s film is both touching and inspiring, and you don’t want to miss this event.

The LUNAFEST event will include a Pink Box Pull for $20 a box, with all boxes containing items valued at $25 or more from various local businesses and a Grand Raffle where tickets are $20 each with 5 prizes to choose from. The Grand Raffle prizes include a condo for a week in Destin Florida (mutually agreeable date), Hamilton Tickets, Diamond Earrings, Prada Sunglasses and a Michael Kors purse with a $150 gift card to Macy’s. To purchase Grand Raffle tickets, visit www.gotreco.org. (Winner need not be present)

All proceeds from LUNAFEST will benefit Girls on the Run East Central Ohio, a nonprofit organization that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in grades 3 – 8 develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness.
